I'm gonna get in shape, for the 100th time. But this time im gonna make it :) I have never really been into sports and eat far to much unhealthy food. I have tried numerous times to start exercising but always ended up quitting after a month or two. Got a mail from a friend about this site and it looks promising. I hope more people find it soon! :) My plan is to stay away from the white bread and candy and do race walking 1 hour per day. My previous attempts I think I got in too much of a rush trying to run from the start just ending up hurting myself. Feel free to give me feedback on how I should start getting in shape! best wishes Lilly |

Great spirit Lilly,
Im sure you will make it this time.
When you start feeling a bit stronger after a couple of weeks of walking I think you could start doing some very light weight lifting like crunches, squats and push ups on your knees without any weights. Just to get the muscles in your body working and burn more calories.
Personaly I am trying to gain some weight, you would think we could be a good team |

I'll try to do some crunches and things like that as you said. May be I will even get courageous and go to a gym :)

Good luck!!!! I hope that you stick with it. I have been trying to watch what I eat and drop some weight, but hasnt been going all that well. I just signed up with weight watchers doing the point system, and I really like that. I forces me to actually keep track of what I eat thru out the day, and I am finding out that some of the things that I thought were better, actually are not the greatest. Glad to see some new life on here. Keep posting away |

Of course you should try out the gym. Not everyone is looking like Madonna you know. In my gym we have people of all kinds, old, young etc. People are there to workout and i am sure you will get great help from others training there if you ask them. I sure know I love to help people that are friendly and want to learn!

I will second what garyward said. My gym is the same, and it also has a cardio rehab center as it is associated with an area hospital. People from every walk of life as well as fitness level are there working out. I have found that for me personally, I avoid the high crowd times such as mid afternoon. That is when I see the people with the huge heads to match their huge muscles and it can get old. During the other times of the day, people can be very helpful and friendly. |

Lilly, I just joined the site and I am a kindred spirit! It took everything I had to put my picture on this site and to really take a hard look at where I have been. Having done that, however, I can better picture where I am going---and it looks a helluva lot better than yesterday! I am using THE FIRM tapes at home. I am not sure if they still make them, but probably can be found on E-bay or at the library. I have forgotten just how great and effective they are---I had to wipe the dust off of some of them! Keep on keepin' on! maryeliz |

Welcome Mary! :)
So I take it you are working against the same goal as me. Great to know I am not alone :) I am a bit too shy to put my picture here yet, but who knows what happens in the future :)
The Firm tapes you say, don't think I have heard of those. I will have to look into that!

Thanks alot for your posts. You are probably right and I really should try the gym. It is a big thing for me though and I have alot of thoughts in my head about all the scary people there :)
My mission for the next week: Find out what kind gyms I have close by!

you don't need a gym (if you're self conscience), i lost 17kg's by simply walking for half an hour after work every day & watching what I ate :) in saying that, gyms are a good place to get guidance if you're unsure of what you are doing or how to go about something |
