I'm currently about 270 lbs. I've tried various diets and excercise routines, and just can't seem to find one that I'll stick with. It's not that I don't enjoy it, I actually do, but because of recent health problems and traveling, I just can't seem to get with it. Does anyone have any advice or excercises you think might be useful to me? Please help! |

I have no advice to impart as I am in the same boat. Maybe we can encourage one another. I do not have a workout partner, so I find many excuses not to work out, so this may be of some benefit to motivate. |

| I am traveling as well. I too find it a challenge. I started walking around the parking lots listening to my iPod and do it for 20 minutes. It is nice to be outside and I make it a requirement for myself to do JUST 20 minutes. The other thing I am doing is really looking at what I am doing the next day. If things are going to be crazy the next day and I know I am going to struggle to keep it on track, then I work out right away in the morning. Also, if I am out of town and i am not sure the area is safe I will go to a local target or a mall or walmart and walk the store. you can then window shop (if you like that ) while keeping fit. I do too ask the cabs to drop me off at the end of the lot and i walk all the way to the store. I have also started taking the stairs and requesting a room on the higher floors. no one wants that floor anyway so they seem to be able to accomodate. If you are really trying to get some peer motivation there is a site called www.peertrainer.com that I have found helpful, especially with traveling. Also, for food choices while traveling have an appetizer and make it a goal to leave something on the plate no matter what. drive water, drink water, drink water. seems to keep you a little fuller or a least talk you into being full. talk to the others in the office that you are traveling too and often you find others that walk at lunch - you can join them and you learn alot about those that you are working with or for but you also get some exercie in. last but no least, do some execises that are easy to do in your hotel and that are simple - do 15 push ups, 15 situps, 15 lunges, and 15 back extensions where you are on your stomach and you put all four limps in the air for 5 secons for 15 reps. This should take about 5 to 6 minutes - so if before you leave for the office and when you get home and now you have 10 minutes in. also, remember that you don't have to do it all at once. any movement at all it going in the right direction. figure out a real strong reward system or a goal - like 20 minutes total day for a period of time and reward yourself with something that you really want that is reasonablely priced. Hope these hints help you. |

I've had my share of yo-yo'ing in my weight. Never as a result of dieting though. I've never been on a 'diet'. I just get tired of being heavy and commit myself to exercise. I've been through this cycle a few times in my life. The upside is that I was quite physical when I was in school so it seems to come back relatively fast. My only advice is this: You have to be committed. Completely. You have to decide that losing weight, watching what you eat (not dieting, just eat clean), and getting fit becomes your number 1 objective. That means never making an excuse. Doing it every day or at least x times per week according to your plan. And, if you miss a day, don't tell yourself you've failed. That's just one day. Go back to doing it. You might cheat and skip every second day when you first start because it's hard, but keep going back to it. Find someone you can share your goals with. There are multiple peer sites (including this one) that can help you share your challenges and goals with someone that is in a similar state to you. |

The biggest thing effecting your weight is your diet. Many bodybuilders are busy people so they use supplements to save time. Like bringing some whey protein along with them wherever they go can be a huge timesaver.
I recoomend getting some supps but always try your best to train at least 3 times a week. Splitting up muscle groups. Don't be afraid of weights they will increase your metabolism ten fold and turn you into a fat burning furnace :P
Hope this helps. :)

sharks2006I'm currently about 270 lbs. The best tools when travelling are a food journal/diary to record what, when, how and why you eat (this can help you see where you're 'slipping up' and pinpoint things like non-conscious or boredom eating and alcohol consumption); a pedometer that you can wear on your belt or in your pocket to record all your movement for the day (aim for 10,000 steps a day to keep healthy - you'd be surprised how it can add up and how motivating it can be); and an exercise band and/or skipping rope (these take up next to no room in a bag or suitcase and can be used in the privacy of your hotel room to do a vast array of exercises). These items mean you're not limited to hotels that have a gym in order to keep fit, you don't have to leave your hotel if you need to workout early or late or you're unsure about the neighbourhood, they are light and compact, and keep you motivated while you're away.
Doing something is better than nothing, and nothing is never an option!

Focus on the food. It is impossible to only exercise away the weight. Stop eating carbohydrates. No bread, rice or potatoes. NOT AT ALL for 10-15 weeks (common, that is a short time). Limit your calorie intake to 1300-1500 per day. Breakfast, cottage cheese and two eggs, lunch is a sallad (no, not any dressing, or very little dressing), afternoon apple, dinner a small steak or fish, maybe 150-200g, plus sallad. DO THIS FOR TEN WEEKS AND YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY LOSE 20LB or more!!! Do some exercise test before you start, and then continue exercising as much as you can during the 10 weeks. Minimum 4h a week. Do the same test after your weght loss. You will be amazed how much better you are. Good luck! PS, an even more effficient way is "very low callorie diet", which you can do for ten weeks. It is very strict, and allows for 500-600kCal intake a day. You will lose 50LB in ten weeks if you are able to do this, but do not try without medical support. It is of course very motivating, and highly efficient. After that you can go over to the slower schedule above, and you will continue losing another lb20+ in the following months. Down to lb200 instead of 270 in less than half a year. It is possible, it is a little bit of hard work, but it is exciting. PPS Dont forget that it is much easier to drink calories than to eat them. NO sweet drinks, and you just have to be careful with the alcohol. PPPS It is easier to be successful if you have support. If you were in Sweden you should go to "ITRIM.SE", but maybe there is something similar where you are. Weight Watchers is a start, but they allow you to eat the carbs, which is not good. |
